Richmond, VA — The Global Institute for AI and Humanity (GIAH) announces the publication of The AI Thinking Model: Reclaiming Critical Thinking in the AI Era by Liz B. Baker, the institute’s founder. The book introduces a framework for configuring AI to develop — rather than diminish — human critical thinking, and is available now in paperback.
Research from Harvard, Wharton, and Boston Consulting Group confirms what many have suspected: passive AI use erodes critical thinking. But their findings also show the reverse. When people engage with AI strategically, the same tool sharpens reasoning, strengthens decision-making, and develops cognitive capacity over time.
The AI Thinking Model is built on that research. Baker’s framework organizes AI engagement around five core human capacities: critical thinking, wisdom, innovation, ethics, and strategy. The book provides a three-phase system — Configure, Think Well, Transform — that moves individuals and organizations from generic AI use to configured, intentional AI partnerships.
“The headlines are right that AI can make us dumber,” Baker said. “But the solution isn’t to use AI less. It’s to configure it with intention and engage with it as a thinking partner, not a shortcut. That’s what this book teaches.”
The book spans 22 chapters across four parts. Part I examines the thinking crisis — a decline in critical thinking that predates AI but has been accelerated by it. Part II introduces the AI Thinking Model framework and configuration methodology. Part III applies the model across roles: students, educators, executives, caregivers, faith leaders, neurodivergent professionals, and public servants. Part IV addresses the broader stakes: accountability, competitiveness, and the future of human thinking.
Supplementary appendices include a platform-by-platform configuration guide, a discussion guide for book groups and classrooms, and pre-built configuration templates for more than a dozen roles.
An interactive configuration wizard is available at aithinkingmodel.com, where readers can build a personalized AI thinking partner based on the book’s framework.
